Naval Coating, Inc. (NCI), a San Diego based service disabled veteran owned small business, is a successful company for many reasons; not the least of which is because they were recently awarded multiple sub-contracts with BAE Systems. NCI recently received two large sub-contracts worth a combined value of nearly $4 million to provide a new standard of ship maintenance on four Navy vessels: USS Cape St. George, USS Rushmore, USS Higgins, and USS Paul Hamilton. The objective of this new maintenance concept is to control escalating repair costs in an increasingly austere defense budgetary environment while at the same time providing increased opportunity for small businesses to participate in ship repair work. NCI was a natural choice for this work because of its proven track record of aggressive preservation and identification, adoption, and implementation of innovative methods in the ship repair and maintenance line of work.
For more than forty years, NCI has blasted, cleaned, preserved and applied specialized protective coatings to the exterior hulls of many of the mighty ships serving in the US Navy, as well as cleaning and coating all exposed topside equipment, structures, and fittings for many classes of ships, to include aircraft carriers. NCI’s commitment to excellence is the reason for why their reputation is as stellar as it is, and why they are a trusted source for leadership and innovation in ship maintenance.
San Diego Contracting Opportunities Center (SDCOC) staff first began working with NCI staff in October of 2003; at that time, multiple NCI staff attended an SDCOC workshop training entitled ISO 9000: Quality Management Overview. Since then, SDCOC staff have continued to assist NCI with multiple government contracting related tasks and technical assistance with topics ranging from market research to socio-economic certifications, like the 8(a) Business Development and HUBZone Certifications. With a mission to assist small businesses win and successfully perform on government contracts, SDCOC looks forward to our continued support of NCI’s government contracting technical assistance needs.
