From humble beginnings, Dr. Krystal Henderson, pursued her passion of helping Black and other minority students while working on her doctoral degree from Loyola University. August 2020, she founded Henderson Professional Mentorship Group, a consulting firm in the areas of professional development, program design, diversity, equity, and inclusion. They are also career mentors providing culturally responsive advice to Black professionals who are entry-level to middle management.
HPMGRP’s Dr. Henderson was recently sub-contracted as the lead Qualitative Researcher for the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Community Reinvestment Plan (CRP). The WA Commerce is building a plan to describe how funds will be invested to address racial, economic, and social disparities in communities across the state created by the enforcement of state and federal criminal laws and penalties for drug possession. Dr. Henderson applies her mentorship approach in collaborating with community members to conduct interviews, focus groups, and other qualitative activities. In July 2022, the California Community College Chancellor’s Office awarded HPMGRP a contract for the development of RFA and oversight of two statewide grant programs funding equity work through the 116-community college system.
Dr. Henderson has been working with Tanya Counts, APEX Accelerator’s advisor and states, “Ms. Counts is one of the most knowledgeable and attentive business coaches I have ever had. She helped me navigate Sam.gov, CalEprocure, other government contracting portals, and reviewed draft scopes. Her support and guidance have been absolutely invaluable.” With Tanya’s help, HPMGRP is now registered in Sam.gov and recently applied for their WOSB Certification.
